Sappi Employees Are Giving Back to Neighboring Communities

Over $15,000—that’s how much employees at Sappi’s Somerset Mill raised last holiday season to feed undernourished families in neighboring communities. The Christmas Dinner Harvest food drive first began back in 2008, when a longtime employee heard on the radio that the holiday season presents the biggest struggle for pantries trying to feed hungry families. He proposed an idea for a food drive at the mill, and it sparked immediate interest.

Denard Span of the San Francisco Giants Catches the Hearts of Families

Denard Span knows a thing or two about lending a hand.

Last night, Span made two unbelievable catches to help teammate Matt Moore take a no-hit bid into the 9th inning. Off the field, however, Span lends another type of hand.

Growing up in a single parent home, Span gives credit to his Mom for the sacrifices she made so he could pursue his dream as a Major Leaguer. As a result, Span was inspired to give back to those single parent families.

Giving Tuesday

Have you noticed that Black Friday and Cyber Monday have now morphed together? And they now start the entire week before Thanksgiving? Some stores are even open on Thanksgiving Day now!

I’m not really complaining. I love a good deal. And shopping has always been one of my favorite pastimes.

But even I realize the irony. On the very day set aside to be thankful for what we already have, we are making plans to buy more.

Perhaps that’s why Giving Tuesday debuted two years ago. It’s a global initiative encouraging others to give back.
