JACKSON, Mich., February 18, 2019 /3BL Media/ – The Consumers Energy Foundation is strengthening its commitment to Michigan’s environment by announcing new plans to provide $500,000 to nonprofits for projects aiming to preserve, restore and protect Michigan’s natural resources.

The first Planet Awards will provide as much as $250,000 to two or more Michigan nonprofits aiming to make a positive impact on the state’s land, water, or air.

Filer Township Receives Grant for Magoon Creek Park Improvements

A combined $16,000 grant from the CMS Energy and Consumers Energy foundations has leveraged more than $70,000 in additional funding to improve public use of a little-known treasure on Lake Michigan in Manistee County’s Filer Township.

Local leaders announced a list of improvements planned for 2019 to the Magoon Creek Natural Area, a 97-acre park with 2,300 feet of Lake Michigan frontage owned by Filer Township.

The $16,000 grant that was presented on Friday helped secure a $71,000 grant from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund to finance the improvements.

FLINT, Mich., August 24, 2017/3BL Media/ – Tom Gores and Consumers Energy President and CEO Patti Poppe announced today a $2 million commitment to help fund the creation of a Flint Promise scholarship program. The new privately funded scholarship has a goal to launch for the 2018-2019 school year.

The funding commitment comprises a $1 million personal pledge from Mr. Gores, who is Chairman and CEO of investment firm Platinum Equity and owner of the Detroit Pistons, and a $1 million grant from the Consumers Energy Foundation.
