By Nicola Acutt, Vice President, Sustainability Strategy

Today officially marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, where we bring awareness to the importance of climate action to help heal our planet. We’re facing unprecedented times—sheltering in place, homeschooling, and taking care of loved ones over phone or video. This is a powerful reminder of how interconnected and interdependent we are on each other, our communities and our planet. And how VMware’s rallying cry this Earth Day—Every Bit Counts—is more meaningful than ever.

As we rush to address the urgent, overwhelming global coronavirus pandemic, it’s easy to overlook the long-term support systems that maintain our health and wellness.

For those sequestered in city apartments, with no access to parks, green spaces or even trees, the sense of loss is very tangible right now. Of course, that feeling pales in comparison to those dealing with the loss of a loved one or friend due to the unforgiving coronavirus — but it’s a sentiment we must also confront for society at large.

Every Action Adds Up

In these changing and uncertain times, it’s important not to lose sight of the climate crisis, and how we can do our part. As much of the world is working from home and experiencing real disruption to normal routine, it can be a challenge to continue to live sustainably or find opportunities to make a difference.

Wednesday, April 22 is the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day and a unique moment in time to share and appreciate our connection to nature. During the week of April 20, WWF is inviting people to create art pieces that show their passion for nature. We’re asking that people share their art with the digital world on Instagram and Facebook using the hashtag #ArtForEarth. Throughout the week, WWF will share some of our favorite pieces on our social media accounts to our millions of followers.

Each day of the week will have a new artistic theme to guide artwork:
