October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and this year’s theme is #InclusionWorks. The entire month is aimed at educating about disability employment issues and celebrating the many contributions made by employees with disabilities.
90 million young people are out of work in India and 200 million are underemployed.
Here’s what we’re doing about it:
Generation pinpoints high-growth sectors, then works with employers to develop a focused curriculum that delivers the professional and personal skills that young people need to build successful careers in those sectors. In India, our initial focus is on healthcare — a sector that exhibits incredibly high demand for trained individuals.
FedEx is investing $1 million in the National Urban League (NUL) as part of its FedEx Cares initiative to build a stronger workforce by creating pathways to meaningful employment for underserved communities. The investment will support workforce development programs for entry level and seasoned job seekers, including job training, GED services, internships, professional certifications and services to prepare individuals for long-term employment.
KFC UK added hope to more than 70 people at the 2016 Sunemployment Roadshow, a job fair campaign from one of the UK’s biggest newspapers created to place long-term unemployed people into jobs. The UK team has supported the roadshow for five years running and participated in the 2016 campaign’s three job fairs.
Many of these 70 new hires are coming out of hardships or disadvantaged backgrounds within the communities KFC stores are located.
Local entrepreneurs have solar energy, Internet connectivity, skills training, and mentors to build businesses and create jobs
