Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Smithsonian’s Office of the Under Secretary for Education was planning collaborations with Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA). Since many activities and events were cancelled due to COVID-19, the Smithsonian team acted fast to introduce the Summer Road Trip, a print activity guide with 40 pages of no-tech activities in STEM, history and the arts for K-8 learners.
An email from a special colleague you haven’t heard from in a while. A cheerful voicemail message from a dear friend. A text that makes you feel special. A heartwarming tag on social media. Our days are brightened by these unexpected connections.
Well, we received an email the other day from one of the relief organizations we support: Water Mission. In it was this unexpected link to a day-brightening 1-minute video of the organization in action.
Supporting the growth of small businesses everywhere is one of the many way FedEx invests its charitable resources. The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted thousands of entrepreneurs, especially when it comes to getting access to capital funding. That’s why FedEx is collaborating with nonprofits like Acción, one of the world’s leading global microfinance organizations. In Brazil, FedEx is helping support financial technology start-ups, often called fintech, through the Acción Venture Lab.
Whenever there is a mega-disaster, like the recent category 4 hurricane Laura that hit the gulf coast of the U.S., FedEx reaches out to the disaster relief organizations we support year round to see if they may have a special need where FedEx can help.
While we focus on delivering humanitarian aid – to help people impacted by the disaster – we also know that many animals are often displaced and in need of shelter and care. These animals include people’s pets…our furry friends.
After the catastrophic explosion in Beirut, FedEx immediately reached out to the disaster relief agencies we work with year round to see how we could help with relief efforts. We discovered that Direct Relief, a humanitarian relief organization FedEx has supported for many years, had critically-needed medicines and supplies that they wanted it to get over to Lebanon – 60-tons worth!
Birdies. Not those hatched in a nest, but rather, those made on made on the golf course. PGA Professionals and friends, Justin Thomas and Bud Cauley recently took part in a “birdie challenge.” The golfer with the most birdies would have $100,000 donated in his name by FedEx to Heart to Heart International (HHI), a nonprofit providing humanitarian development and crisis relief worldwide.
