Each new school year brings excitement for students to begin their classes and for teachers eager to inspire them. To make the school year successful, school supplies are needed … a pencil, pen, backpack, folder or paper, among many other items. It is no secret that FedEx team members participate in community service projects year-round. But every year, during FedEx Cares Week, it is truly inspiring to see so many team members from the global FedEx family come together to support their communities in meaningful projects around the world. The photos tell the story: a lot of purple tee shirts dotting the planet and proclaiming that FedEx cares….but it is the people in those tee shirts that prove it.
“One-hundred and twenty people? Sure, we can use your help!”

Four hours was all it took. In that time, my client Robert* obtained a vision screening, filed a social security form, applied for food stamps, picked up some new clothes, sat down for a photo shoot and had a good meal.
And in that same amount of time, I gained a new perspective on some of the most forgotten members of our community: the homeless.
As a member of communications management at FedEx, Robert is not my typical ‘client.’ But on Thursday, Sept. 18, he became my top priority as I helped him navigate Project Homeless Connect at the Memphis Cook Convention Center.

The numbers are staggering. Over one million people in Indiana go hungry every day and go to bed hungry every night. A simple meal, a necessity and indulgence for the rest of us, remains out of reach for many. Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana gives hope and removes the barriers for children, the elderly and their families to access the adequate nutrition they need.
