Approximately 800 million people around the world go hungry each day. According to the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), about 1 in 3 people worldwide are at risk of food insecurity, a figure that jumped significantly due in large part to the global pandemic.
Mexico, a model of how innovation can address food insecurity
Reliable access to affordable, nutritious food is something many of us take for granted. But for more than two decades, the dark reality of food insecurity has spread to every corner of the world. The onset of the global pandemic further exacerbated food insecurity, hitting a five-year high, according to an annual report by the Global Network Against Food Crises (GNAFC).
Entrepreneurs are essential to society. They contribute to its betterment by trailblazing new paths that provide innovative solutions to practical, financial, and social issues. I experienced this firsthand when I was growing up in Kenya. My parents are entrepreneurs and always encouraged us to carve out a meaningful career trajectory, leave a positive footprint, and carry on an impactful legacy. That’s why, despite first pursuing a law career and later earning a master’s in business administration, I felt I could do more for my community by becoming an entrepreneur.

When we say the word coach, we likely have a person in mind. Because many people carry the title of coach, especially in sports, we may think of this as the basic definition and example of coaching. However, if you are like me, you have experienced the tremendous impact one coach can have, not only for a team, but for specific individuals.
We are proud to positively impact an issue such as global hunger. As part of our Nutrition for Zero Hunger initiative, we are honored to partner with the World Food Program USA and provide food and support to help communities in need around the world.

In the early days of my career, I worked as a pediatrician with the goal of helping my patients get a strong, healthy start. To this day, I am thankful for the opportunity I had to help others. But I also became even more aware of the challenges families faced, and I saw how food insecurity – unreliable or inconsistent access to affordable and nutritious food – affected communities and continues to be a significant global issue today.
