Keowee Hydro Station marks 50 years of generating clean, renewable energy

While it’s relatively young for a hydropower plant, Keowee Hydro Station tells the story of a much larger energy project for the beautiful northwest corner of South Carolina.

Duke Energy built the plant and the Keowee Dam along the Keowee River in the late 1960s and early 1970s to create Lake Keowee in Pickens County at the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains.

Keowee Hydro began producing power in April 1971.

Boeing and RER Hydro to Provide Quebec with Clean Hydrokinetic Power

BECANCOUR, Quebec, Nov. 14, 2013 /3BL Media/ - Boeing [NYSE: BA] and its partner RER Hydro of Montreal have entered into a multiyear agreement with the government of Quebec to provide 40 hydrokinetic turbines that will generate about 9 megawatts of clean, renewable power.

Once completed, the St. Lawrence River near downtown Montreal will have the world’s largest river-generated, hydrokinetic turbine farm.
