The Major League Baseball Players Association had quite a year in 2017, on and off the field, as the union began its second 50 years of advancing and protecting players' rights.

Advancing players' interests took on exciting new forms in 2017 as Executive Director Tony Clark sought to broaden the player fraternity's reach by strengthening ties to the former player community, providing new and better platforms for active players to engage with fans and moving ahead with the vision of building a solid foundation to support and develop youth baseball around the world.

Melissa Bellerjeau, a Jackie Robinson Scholar and Jackie Robinson Foundation summer intern, provides a first-person account of her visit to the MLBPA office on June 7.  During her visit, Melissa, a Temple University journalism major, was joined by fellow JRF summer interns, Justin Mollison, a student at Vanderbilt University studying biomedical engineering, and Madison Johnson, a student at the University of Pennsylvania studying political science.

NEW YORK, Monday, April 17, 2017 /3BL Media/  -- Major League baseball players will once again proudly bestow a $42,000 grant from the Players Trust to the Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF), the Trust announced on Friday, April 14 – the day before the baseball world celebrated the 70th anniversary of when Jackie made his Major League debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers and, by doing so, courageously shattered the game’s color barrier.

As part of its recognition of Jackie Robinson Day, the Players Association announced Friday that its charitable arm, the Players Trust, is making a $42,000 grant to the Jackie Robinson Foundation to provide a college scholarship to a young person in its program.

In view of Robinson’s historic contributions to players of all races and the enduring work of his wife, Rachel, and daughter, Sharon, MLBPA Executive Director Tony Clark said it was fitting that the union increase its commitment to the ideals represented by Robinson, his family and their foundation.
