Lessons from the First Weeks in India


Betsy Neuville and Genevieve Fitzgibbon arrived in New Delhi last week to launch major programmatic initiatives in the inclusion of people with disabilities, particularly developmental disabilities and mental disorders, across India.  The first few days of work shed a small light on the experience of being different, and the need to find allies and supporters to walk the journey together.

Hooker, III, Keystone’s Senior Vice President, was appointed as KHS President-Elect on January 26, 2016. Mr. Hooker will assume the role of Keystone’s President and Chief Executive Officer upon the transition of the current President, Dennis Felty, to KHS Founding President in the fall of 2016. This executive succession is part of the planned retirement of Mr. Felty, who has served as President of Keystone Human Services for the past 44 years.

SSD’s Astronaut Puppies Launch Their Service Dog Journey

3…2…1…Blast off! 

The seven puppies in Susquehanna Service Dogs’ Astronaut Litter have launched their journey to becoming service dogs! SSD Heide Piper (Heide), SSD Wendy Lawrence (Wendy), SSD Suni Williams (Suni), SSD John Glenn (Glenn), SSD Alan Shepard (Shepard), SSD James Lovell (Lovell), and SSD Neil Armstrong (Armstrong) are with their puppy raisers.

Chocolate pudding, chocolate ganache, chocolate chip cookies--there are so many possibilities for Chocolatefest! What will the Sheraton Harrisburg Hershey Hotel bring this year?

Chocolatefest is Keystone Human Services' biggest fundraiser. Held on January 31 at Hershey Lodge, the event includes tastes of chocolate from area hotels, caterers, confectioners, and restaurants. There is also an impressive cake competition, live music, children's activities, a silent auction, and a basket raffle.

I worked at Salvation Army for three years, and I wasn’t happy there either because it didn’t challenge me. At Salvation Army, I was running racks with clothes.

The weekend begins with ChocolateBall on January 30 at 6 p.m. This beach-themed black tie event includes dinner, dancing, live music by Cruise Control, live and silent auctions, and more. Once again, Mountz Jewelers has donated a stunning diamond pendant that the lucky winner of the champagne raffle will get to take home.

Team Training: When Everything Comes Together

On October 21, 2015, four people and their service dogs completed team training and became new service dog teams. We’re so excited for them and we’re looking forward to hearing about how their service dogs have changed their lives. Congratulations to our new teams!
Team training is the culmination of several years of training and countless hours by our volunteers and staff. Those tiny puppies that you watched snuggle and play on the puppy cam have grown into dedicated working dogs.
