(NYSE: CAT) employees and retirees together with the Caterpillar Foundation have pledged more than $11.2 million to United Way agencies across the United States as part of its 2017-2018 campaign. This amount includes a dollar-for-dollar matching grant from the Caterpillar Foundation. The United Way has been Caterpillar’s only annual corporate-sponsored charitable solicitation for funds to its employees and retirees for more than 60 years.

Wells Fargo kicks off a joint effort with United Way to fight hunger by collecting nonperishable food donations nationwide
Wells Fargo is doubling as a food bank this holiday season in a joint effort with United Way to fight hunger.
From Nov. 28 to Dec. 30, approximately 5,900 Wells Fargo branches will serve as food donation centers, collecting nonperishable foods in specially marked bins as part of the Wells Fargo Holiday Food Bank.
A pop-up food bank tour will also make stops at 17 cities throughout the U.S. as part of the effort. Displays for the campaign will promote opportunities through United Way to volunteer, donate food, and learn more about hunger in the U.S.

Growing up, I was the youngest of five siblings raised by a single mother in a modest home in South Florida. I remember in my teens working at a fast food restaurant and thinking about working my way up to restaurant manager – but not thinking about college. Instead, here I am in my 26th year at NBCUniversal, with a distant view of the Statue of Liberty – my personal model of strength and grace – visible from my Manhattan office window.
Recently, Aaron Womble, along with 22 other employees, took a few hours out of his day to volunteer in Kensington Brooklyn. The group sorted food, set up food stations, and handed out groceries with United Way of NYC’s community-based partner, Food Bank for NYC’s Campus Pantry Program. After providing food to approximately 200 hungry New York families, here is what Aaron had to say:

No, I’ve done everything from handing out turkeys at New York Common Pantry to painting fire escapes at schools.
More than 60 Avista employees volunteered for the Spokane County United Way Day of Action in Spokane on Sept. 15 to Make a Meal for Many. Together, with 600 participants from around the community, they packaged 140,000 meals.
