By Tony Speller, Regional Vice President of Technical Operations and Engineering, Comcast
More than 20 years ago, I joined Comcast as a technician and cable installer. My career has taken me from coast to coast, with roles in Chicago, Seattle, Houston, New Hampshire, and now Philadelphia. But no matter what my title was or where I was working, one thing that remained constant was the passion of the colleagues I worked with when it came to supporting our communities.
About 1 in 68 children are diagnosed with autism. Comcast employee Lane Watts never imagined his son, Gavin, would be one of them. But thanks to the free services offered by the Regional Rehabilitation Center, a United Way partner agency, Gavin is making great process every day and the financial burden the Watts family was experiencing has been lifted.
Watch Lane and his family share how United Way’s support has changed their lives.
Growing up, Tony Speller’s family struggled to make ends meet. He and his siblings spent a lot of time at a local recreation center that helped keep them off the streets and out of trouble.
Today, Tony is vice president of technical operations and engineering for Comcast in the Philadelphia region. He gives back to United Way to support after-school programs so other kids can find their paths to success.

I’ve learned, for example, about the challenges faced by so many when it comes to skyrocketing expenses resulting from medical setbacks, the efforts of minimum-wage workers to do more than just put food on the table, or the consequences of unforeseen events like a house fire or a flood.
