U.S. Navy Reservist Celebrates 14 Years With The Home Depot


Starting out as a lot tech and garden associate in Jacksonville, Florida, Darren Hammerstad had no idea that the part-time job he began as a teenager would lead to a career with The Home Depot. Fourteen years and five stores later, Darren is an assistant store manager. He’s worked his way across various roles, from hardware to loss prevention, all while serving as a reservist in the U.S. Navy.

Jessica Murchison is many things: U.S. Navy veteran, military spouse and mother. She’s also a Home Depot associate who began as a part-time cashier four years ago in Poway, California. Today, she works at our store in South Annapolis, Maryland, as the night replenishment manager.

Last year, the US Navy broke the world record for flying 50 autonomous drones with a single operator. Last weekend, the US Navy hosted their first event hackathon, #HACKtheSKY. Over the course of 72 hours, 220 data scientists, developers, cyber experts, and Navy subject matter experts tackled the Naval Postgraduate School and Department of Navy Innovation’s toughest Unmanned Aerial Vehicle challenges.

The Impact of a Service Dog


On May 6, we held our annual Graduation and Volunteer Appreciation Celebration. Twenty-nine dogs graduated, including two companion dogs, eighteen service dogs, seven breeding dogs, and two CIA K-9s. Congratulations to all our graduating teams!
