This summer, we conducted an in-depth review of employee volunteer programs by analyzing the corporate social responsibility (CSR) reports of more than 40 large domestic and internationally recognized businesses.

Our research had us thinking through the techniques used to effectively communicate the impacts of corporate volunteer initiatives, and which of these help produce clear, eye-catching reports. We unearthed a few examples of companies doing this well, and offer the following tips to organizations looking to highlight volunteerism in their next CSR reports:

In fact, The Salvation Army’s Glendale Corps food pantry is serving 200 percent more people than it was five years ago, and this year,  The Salvation Army in Southern California provided  more than 182,000 individual grocery orders.

(3BL Media) Stamford, CT - October 2, 2012 – Keep America Beautiful’s Recycle-Bowl competition for elementary, middle- and high-school students was created to increase school recycling participation and teach students about recycling and environmental responsibility. To be eligible for cash prizes, registration ends at midnight on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012.

All participating schools will track and report how much recyclable material they collect during the four-week competition. The competition runs from Oct. 15 through Nov. 9.
