With the expected effective date of July 1st, Global Brands are beginning to decide how they will handle their compliance for California Assembly Bill 1879, also known as the Safer Consumer Products Regulations.

The trend towards corporate social responsibility and an increasingly educated and demanding consumer have led to regulations like these, and many others that force companies to investigate their supply chains and divulge findings.

Safer Consumer Products Regulations aim to reduce or eliminate the use of hazardous materials in consumer products by considering how these substances can be extracted from product design, development, and manufacture.

These regulations apply to all consumer products that contain a Candidate Chemical, and are sold, offered for sale, distributed, supplied, or manufactured in California under the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) and, with a Candidate Chemical list of approximately 1,200, the number of companies in scope is expected to extensive.
