GE has been named to the Global 100, a ranking of the most sustainable corporations in the world.  The award, announced this week at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, is based on 12 key performance indicators including resource, employee and financial management.  “We are committed to finding sustainable solutions to benefit the planet, its people and the economy,“ said Bob Corcoran, Vice President of Corporate Citizenship. “While we still have work to do, this recognition highlights the progress we have made in being responsible world citizens.” The info graphics below highlight a few of the key metrics that contributed to GE being included in this annual ranking.

GE’s position as among the top 100 out of a field of over 4,000 companies ranked world-wide is a tribute to GE’s commitment to improving social, governance, environmental and economic sustainability efforts around the world. The Global 100 is an annual ranking of corporate sustainability performance compiled by the Corporate Knights, a Toronto-based media and financial information products company, and is announced each January at the World Economic Forum. GE is among those companies included because of our ability to manage strategic opportunities in new environmental and social markets.

Companies included on the ranking are measured by how efficiently they use energy and water, and how much waste and green house gas emissions they generate relative to wealth creation.  They also assess leadership, asking whether the corporate culture reflects the society and marketplace in which a company operates.  Companies are also ranked additional factors such as workplace safety and employee turnover rates.  By objectively scoring companies using meaningful criteria, the group hopes to influence market sources and divert capital away from inefficient, irresponsible firms towards more resource-productive and responsible ones.
