The Keys to a Great Workplace
We all want to have an exciting workplace. A company environment where the work is interesting and challenging, and people collaborate at all levels to deliver excellent products or services. Where everyone has the chance to develop their careers, and to feel like their contributions are truly valued.
But it seems that most people don’t have this experience at their work. Gallup’s State of the Global Workplace report found that just 15% of employees feel engaged in their workplace. This means the overwhelming majority of people worldwide have little or no positive feeling about their employer and are simply doing the minimum needed to maintain their position. And in turn, those employers are not achieving anything close to their full potential.
The question is: ‘what makes a great workplace?’ Michael Bush, CEO of Great Place to Work®, the leading global authority on high trust, high-performance workplace cultures, sought to answer this in his book, ‘A Great Place to Work for All.’ In it, he highlights the values and processes that organizations need to follow to engage their employees and thrive.
He explains that building trust in the workplace starts with the organization’s leaders. From the senior executives through to section managers, leadership teams need to demonstrate respect and fairness to all employees as the building blocks of trust. That trust is key to improving performance.
Further, he points out that the workplace has to be great not just for some employees, but for all. It must embrace diversity and champion openness, collaboration, and inclusion for everyone to help bring out the best in everyone.
Keysight – officially a great workplace (again)
At Keysight, we strive to put these values and practices at the heart of everything we do. Which is why it’s gratifying that we have again been named as a Top 20 Best Workplace in the Bay Area by the Great Place to Work Institute and FORTUNE Magazine. We placed 18th on the list, up from 28th last year, in one of the world’s most competitive employment marketplaces. This underlines the strength of our culture, and our ongoing efforts in helping our employees achieve their full potential.
It also follows our certification as a Great Place to Work in 2019 for the second consecutive year. The organization asked hundreds of Keysight employees about their workplace experiences: an overwhelming 93% said they are proud to tell others they work at Keysight, and 94% said they enjoy our welcoming environment.
This is because employee growth is one of the pillars of the Keysight Leadership Model (KLM), which is the enabler for delivering greater value to our stakeholders. We empower our employees to develop their skills and thrive by offering a wide range of training and development resources. And we ensure those resources are available to everyone, not just a select few. Last year, FORTUNE once again placed Keysight in its latest listing of the 100 Best Workplaces for Diversity.
As one Keysight employee put it when speaking to the Great Place to Work Institute: “Although it is a big company, it still feels like a family-run business. People know you and you know people. Most of the people here are passionate about what they do and are always willing and happy to help.” Put simply, by helping our employees grow, they benefit, our customers benefit, and our company grows too.
