#share the softness Campaign Supports Saudi Orphans

(3BL Media/Justmeans) – Children are vulnerable individuals who experience the negative effects of a crisis and the conflicts happening around them. It’s estimated that children make up 2.2 billion of the world’s seven billion populations, and according to UNICEF, there are 153 million children who are defined as orphans. The regions where most orphans are living is Asia, Africa Latin America and the Middle East. The current hot conflict regions are the places with an escalating number of orphans. These children, and others, are at risk for poverty, health concerns, neglect and abuse.

The term orphan does not mean it is a child who has lost both parents. Instead, many international organisations also recognise as orphans children who have lost one or both parents and aren’t necessarily children who are in need of homes, since many live with grandparents, aunts or uncles, or other family members. This expansive definition was created out of a desire to recognise that a child who does not have one or both parents may still be vulnerable in some way, whether that is a lack of support, resources or opportunity. As children are vulnerable, there are many fates that can happen to them. The most prevalent includes conscription into armed forces as child soldiers, child trafficking, child prostitution, and early marriage. These challenges are not mutually exclusive, and sadly, in some cases, more than one can be present in a child’s life.

The IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, a non-governmental international organisation provides regular help to the orphans in 46 crisis regions that includes regions such as Afghanistan, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Chad, Palestine, Haiti, Iraq, Lebanon and Sudan amongst others. The IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation has taken an important step with the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which is head of 57 Islamic countries including Turkey and now the fifteenth of each Ramadan is regarded as a special day for the orphan children of the world for the first time and called ‘World Orphans Day’.

Kleenex Arabia is donating SR 1 for each purchase of the donation bundle pack of Kleenex facial tissues to the First Welfare Society orphanage in Jeddah, in celebration of the brand’s 60-year anniversary in the Middle East and the launch of its #share_the_softness campaign. The inspiration behind the campaign comes from Sariya Islam, one of the co-founders of the First Welfare Society orphanage, who has dedicated 60 years of her life to touching the lives of more than 2,000 orphans with her softness and kindness. This campaign kicked off during Ramadan and will come to a close at the end of August 2015.

Kleenex is a trusted and much loved brand for millions of families in the Kingdom and urges residents to take an active part in this campaign where the money raised will help the lives of thousands of Saudi orphans.
