Over 150 employees pull on their boots to help strengthen local communities through in-person or online volunteer events

This fall, global outdoor lifestyle brand Timberland hosted its 23rd annual Serv-a-Palooza, a company-wide community service event at which employee volunteers dedicate their time to address critical needs in their communities. While the tradition continues, this year’s Serv-a-palooza was considerably different from last year’s as the brand adapted the event to maximize safety for over 150 employee volunteers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Community engagement is an important part of Northern Trust's culture. Through our volunteer programs, our employees listen, learn and work closely with our communities to address their specific needs.
Our annual volunteering initiative looks different this year, but our commitment to serving our communities remains constant.
For some Americans, just one criminal misstep early in life can cascade into an endless stream of trouble — trouble getting a job, affording a home and even supporting a family.
Now, through Koch Industries’ pro bono initiative, many more people can access free legal help to clear charges from their records or move beyond past mistakes that have haunted them for years.
The ripple effects can be huge. Legal assistance such as clearing up records gives people a fresh start, helps strengthen their families and ultimately bolsters the communities in which Koch works.
In scrawled black marker or elaborate works of art, posters and signs express the personal stories and historical significance of Black Lives Matter protests.

“Hands up, don’t shoot!” Cutting through a remix of blaring car horns and rhythmic beat of drums, a choir of voices chants call-and-response style from the speakers at the SoLA Contemporary gallery in Los Angeles. The protesters’ calls for justice are punctuated by the powerful messages of the Black Lives Matter signs floating overhead — some elaborate and some profoundly simple.
New Hope Middle School officially opened its new Kodiak Calming Cove, a sensory room for children with special needs, recently, and "it'll make a big difference for students to have a safe space they can go into," said Belinda Sloan, the school's principal.
