Is your company contributing to the relief efforts in the Philippines following Typhoon Haiyan? According to the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Typhoon Haiyan affected a total of 9.5 million people across the Philippines and displaced at least 600,000 when it slammed into the country on November 8th. The aftermath of this natural disaster has ignited relief efforts worldwide. Several of our member companies have reached out to the Center to learn what others are doing and to share ways in which they are contributing.

Rwanda becomes the first country in Africa's Great Lakes region to issue certification verifying that their minerals are conflict free

On November 5th, Rwanda issued the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) Mineral Export Certificate, making them the first country in the region to do so.  The move marked an important first step towards strengthening the legal trade of minerals mined in Africa.  By doing this, it gives multinational companies, and most importantly their customers, added confidence that purchasing products that contain minerals from the region will not contribute to armed conflict.

Chevrolet Volt Owners Silence California Gas Pumps

LOS ANGELES, November 19, 2013 /3BL Media/ – Electric vehicles, well known for silent driving, also are muting the ding of gas pumps. In less than three years, Chevrolet Volt owners in California have driven more than 130 million all-electric miles, avoiding use of an estimated 7 million gallons of gas – enough to mute gas pumps across the state for nearly eight hours.

More than 40 percent of Volt owners live in California, making the extended-range electric vehicle the top-selling plug-in electric vehicle in the Golden State.
