1 in 3 | Mary Kay's Domestic Violence Awareness Month PSA Series Continues

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. With one in three young people in the U.S. experiencing abuse, Mary Kay will be sharing one PSA a week from our Don’t Look Away campaign during October to help raise awareness of this important issue.

A common form of abuse that can sometimes be missed is financial abuse. Fatima’s boyfriend takes her credit cards without her permission and uses her social security number so he can get a student loan. With the help of a stranger, Fatima is given a discrete message on how to seek help in her unhealthy relationship.

Rebuilding Together to Provide Critical Home Repairs to Women-Owned Homes During She Builds Event

Event to include women-led home repairs educational workshops for community residents

Rebuilding Together will join together with its affiliate, Rebuilding Together Seattle to host a She Builds event. Volunteers will renovate four homes in the Allentown neighborhood of Tukwila, while home renovation and design professionals will lead home repair workshops for the community.

Homes being repaired are owned by women who have lived in the community for several years and would like to remain there but are unable to afford repairs. The home repair workshops will be led by women. Attendees will learn repairs they can implement in their own homes from interior designer Rebecca West and handywoman Amy Ecklund. Workshops will include interior design tips, information on home maintenance, and basic plumbing and electrical work.

Our Ideas that Matter program is meant to inspire change and drive social good through print. The graphic design MFA program at MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art) is helping to lay the foundation for a lifetime of sexual and reproductive health by supporting young girls in Baltimore with innovative puberty educational tools through The Growing Girls Project, which is supported by the Johns Hopkins University Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion.
