Press Release
HOUSTON, May 1, 2020 /3BL Media/ - Sysco Corporation (NYSE:SYY) announced today the launch of a new “Foodservice Doesn’t Brake for Adversity” campaign designed to help small foodservice businesses stay in business. The campaign will consist of strategically placed messages across multiple channels designed to encourage Americans to support their local restaurants and also highlights the resilience of all foodservice workers.
The COVID‐19 crisis is accelerating the transformation of business – one that solidifies the private sector mandate of a stakeholder‐first, rather than shareholder‐only, mentality. We’ve kept a pulse on this shift, brand action and stakeholder expectations, revealing that 75% of the U.S. public believes business must take action to protect employees, care for communities and support front-line workers in the fight against COVID‐19. Companies who have rapidly and authentically met this expectation demonstrate Purpose – at its finest.
A program we’re calling “manufacture to donate” works just like it sounds.
Several of our plants are now making food, boxing it up, and sending it straight to Feeding America. The organization is providing it to its network of 200 member food banks, food pantries and meal programs.
It’s another way we’re addressing the urgent need for hunger relief during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Right now, a lot of people could use extra help, and that is particularly true for the most vulnerable people among us. Recently, some Massachusetts and Rhode Island shelters and food banks have gotten a little help in a big way thanks to Amazon, Sysco, and the Patriots Foundation.
During these difficult and uncertain times, we continue to look for ways to support each other and our neighbors. For the month of April and continuing until the first week of May, Brown-Forman will be donating meals to select food pantry organizations in the California neighborhood and Louisville community.
The Company will also launch a paid community service program for Minneapolis-based employees to redirect their work hours to serving hunger-relief nonprofits.
