AEG's LA Kings have partnered with Blue Shield of California to launch ”Storytime with the LA Kings” a new reading program designed to help foster reading comprehension skills among children ages 3 - 9 in Southern California.

Throughout the summer, children will be able to visit local libraries and join LA Kings mascot, Bailey, and the LA Kings Ice Crew for a special reading of “B is for Bailey”, the LA Kings children’s book that covers the A-Zs of hockey. As the team’s first bilingual children’s book which features both English and Spanish translations, “B is for Bailey” introduces hockey terms through catchy rhymes and illustrations of scenes commonly seen at LA Kings games.

“Engaging young readers in the community is important because strong literacy skills help children excel in all areas of study,” said Jennifer Pope, SVP of LA King’s Community Relations, and Hockey Development. “Reading and storytelling skills are fundamental to promoting brain development and sparking children’s imaginations, helping kids reach their full potential.”

Research shows that summer reading programs like “Storytime with the LA Kings” can help children and teens retain and enhance their reading skills and develop enthusiasm for reading. Pre-registration is not required and the events are free. For more information about specific library dates where kids can join Bailey and the LA Kings Ice Crew, click here.
