Lincoln Financial Group's 2013 Career Speaker Series with TFA Commences

Feb 13, 2013 4:30 PM ET

Lincoln Financial Group’s 2013 Career Speaker Series, an ongoing set of visits from influential Lincoln employees to an eighth grade classroom in North Philadelphia, kicked off the year with a talk from one of the financial company’s top number crunchers.

Chantee Angus, a senior manager for Lincoln Financial Network’s Financial and Management Reporting, visited Antonia Pantoja Charter School last week to discuss how she uses math every day in her role at the company. The students asked Angus about her educational background, who her inspirations were, and how she reached each of her career goals. At the end of the visit, the students presented Angus with a Certificate of Appreciation as a “thank you” for sharing her experiences.

The speaking series, conducted in partnership with Teach For America, has found a home in Eric Hamscher’s classroom. He is a second-year TFA teacher who is currently pursuing his teaching certificate at the University of Pennsylvania. Hamscher is the first teacher to participate with Lincoln in its Lincoln Financial Fellowship. The fellowship was established to help TFA teachers, like Hamscher, as well as providing Lincoln a glimpse into the day-to-day challenges and achievements of area students.

In 2012, Lincoln increased the scope of our partnership by announcing a national, three-year grant of $1 million to support the group’s national science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) teacher recruitment initiative in Philadelphia and Hartford, Conn. Lincoln hopes to help TFA reach its goal of having 5,000 STEM teachers in classrooms by 2015.

Lincoln’s Financial Group’s 2013 Career Speaker Series continues at Antonia Pantoja Charter School this month with visits from Chief Financial Officer Randy Freitag and Chief Risk Officer John Rhodes.
