CEDARBURG, Wis., April 28, 2015 /3BL Media/ – Local children can pick out a free book this Saturday when Bess the Book Bus makes stops at CITGO Super Sales in Grafton and Cedarburg.  Tom Gall, co-owner of the CITGO branded location, along with his brothers Doug and Ron, arranged for the book distribution event.

Bess the Book Bus is a mobile literacy outreach program founded in 2002 by Jennifer Frances in honor of her grandmother, Bess O'Keefe. Frances now travels the country in the bus, handing out free books to children who have never owned a book of their own to help spread the joy of reading.  CITGO Petroleum Corporation is one of the main sponsors of Bess the Book Bus as part of its larger Fueling Good initiative, designed to give back to the communities the company serves through local civic and charitable engagement.

Local children’s authors Barbara Joosse and Lisa Moser also will donate books for use during the event. Joosse, known for books such as Mama, Do You Love Me? and I Love You the Purplest, will read a selection of her stories at 1:00 p.m. at the Cedarburg CITGO Super Sales.

Following Bess the Book Bus’ stop in Cedarburg, the Gall family will continue to provide children and families with free books thanks to a new Little Free Library added to their Cedarburg CITGO location. The Little Free Library allows individuals to take a book or place a book for others to read.

“Inciting a love for reading at an early age serves as a foundation for kids who will choose careers in science, technology, math and education,” said Tom Gall. “We have hosted Bess the Book Bus events in the past and with the debut of the Little Free Library, we are paving the way to get more kids in our community actively reading.  As a dad, I know how important reading is in helping our kids achieve their full potential.”
