June 4, 2013 /3BL Media/ - Canada’s Export Credit Agency Releases Annual CSR Report: CSR in the New Reality

Export Development Canada (EDC), Canada's export credit agency, has issued its ninth Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report.

“Ultimately, we can only be truly accountable for our own behaviour. When we’re satisfied with our principles, we look for the same in the people with whom we shake hands — partners who apply the same CSR principles.” says Signi Schneider EDC’s Vice-President for CSR.

The story of the report is about adapting to the new reality of international business. EDC recognizes that the future is moving towards greater global integration and emerging markets.

This latest CSR report communicates both the numbers and the stories behind EDC’s financial transactions around the world, including its first major project in India and how the company applied CSR standards. The report presents important updates surrounding issues that impact key stakeholders.

Concrete achievements and future commitments are mapped out through a CSR Scorecard. The report uses case studies and videos to tell the EDC CSR story, including a customer video on managing the risk of corruption in international business.

Highlights of the 2012 report include:

  • Updates to the Code of Business Ethics and the employee Code of Conduct
  • Signature of EDC’s first large infrastructure deal in India working closely with the project sponsor to ensure that it satisfied international CSR standards
  • An improved process for human rights assessments and increased efforts to raise awareness with customers of the risks of bribery and corruption
  • Assistance to Canada’s cleantech sector
  • LEED for Core and Shell Gold certification for EDC headquarters.

To contribute to the reduction of EDC’s operational footprint, the 2012 report is available online. EDC remains committed to improving the transparency of its business operations to a wide range of stakeholders.View EDC’s 2012 CSR Annual Report here: www.edc.ca/csrreport.
