(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) July 7, 2011 - Building locally, winning sustainably

SABMiller has published its 2011 Sustainable Development Report online at http://www.reportalert.info/ra/profiles/SABMiller/2011/?ID=39253.

One of the four strategic priorities for SABMiller is to constantly raise the profitability of local businesses, sustainably. Its businesses understand that their profitability depends on healthy communities, growing economies and the responsible use of natural resources, and so these issues are integrated into the day to day management of the business through 10 sustainable development priorities.

The report explains these priorities and describes the key initiatives and partnerships underway to address them. SABMiller has also launched a new reporting tool that enables users to explore detailed sustainable development data, by country and priority, and learn more about the performance of its local businesses.

During the past year, SABMiller has:

  • Generated over US$21,072 million of economic value and distributed the majority of this through the course of business to employees, shareholders and other stakeholders.

  • Increased the average group score against its bespoke performance monitoring tool - the Sustainability Assessment Matrix (SAM) - from 2.6 to 2.9, and improved the score achieved in all priority areas.

  • Reviewed and updated its alcohol policy framework, and provided accurate and balanced information on responsible alcohol consumption to over 310,000 different visitors to TalkingAlchohol.com.

  • Reduced water consumption and fossil fuel emissions both by 3%, and recycled 96% of its waste.

  • Continued to invest in local communities, particularly through local sourcing programmes with over 28,000 smallholder farmers.

SABMiller plc is one of the world’s leading brewers with brewing interests and distribution agreements across six continents. The group companies produce a portfolio of over 200 brands and are also one of the largest bottlers of Coca-Cola products in the world.
