Washington, D.C., June 14, 2013 /3BL Media/ —The Alumni Association of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) has announced that Dr. Terry F. Yosie, President & CEO of the World Environment Center (WEC), will receive the university’s prestigious Alumni Achievement Award for 2013. The award recognizes alumni, students and faculty for their service to the university and its alumni for their achievements in the arts, humanities, sciences, technology and business.

Dr. Yosie received his doctorate from the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences in 1981 and was awarded a Masters of Arts degree in History in 1975.  He has served as an active member of the Carnegie Mellon community through frequent guest lectures and publications with faculty. He is a participant in CMU’s Insp!re Innovation campaign through his support of an endowed fellowship in honor of Professor Joel A. Tarr, Carnegie Mellon’s Richard S. Caliguiri University Professor of History and Policy. The fellowship enables students to research the history of the urban environment and develop urban technological systems.

“My former doctoral student Terry Yosie, in his various roles as a senior executive in business, government and non-governmental organizations, is an accomplished change-maker in his efforts to advance more sustainable public policies and business operations around the world,” stated Professor Tarr in acknowledging Dr. Yosie’s award. “He has used his interdisciplinary CMU education to great effectiveness while remaining a part of the university’s community. He is a most deserving recipient of the Alumni Achievement Award.”

Prior to enrolling at Carnegie Mellon, Dr. Yosie graduated magna cum laude in 1974 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he majored in history with a minor in political science. He is a 1970 graduate of Blacklick Valley Junior-Senior High School in Nanty-Glo, Pennsylvania, in Cambria County. He was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and resided for many years with his parents in the village of Twin Rocks. His mother Jean Yosie lives in Ebensburg, Pennsylvania, near his sister Corrine Devlin. He is married to Ann Hegnauer from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and they live in Washington, D.C.

“I have spent my entire adult life guided by the education and relationships that originated from my experiences at Carnegie Mellon,” stated Dr. Yosie. “Being recognized in this manner by one of the world’s great universities is tremendously satisfying and represents a source of enormous pride for my family.”

Carnegie Mellon will hold its annual Alumni Awards Ceremony during its Cèilidh Weekend on September 27 at its Pittsburgh campus.
